There are not many more annoying talking points that come from the American right than the idea that the news media has an inherently liberal bias. Unfortunately, when you say something over and over again for a sustained period of time, people begin to believe it. And the news media, especially CNN, has placated to the right-wing to feel neutral. One could write countless books filled with evidence collected scientifically that could prove how the media does not in fact have a liberal bias. Oh wait, they have. One of those books: Al Franken's Liars and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them. But I do not have the time nor the proper degree to write a book and analyze hours of CNN footage. So if you need scientific evidence for why there is no such thing as the liberal media, go read that book. It's a fantastic read.
Here at the Dash Files, we're going to prove that the mainstream media is not "liberal" by simply showing you the news they pump out. We're going to call this segment "Liberal Media..." I do not think it means what you think it means.
Segment #1: The 30% Sales Tax
By now we know that in order for McCarthy to become Speaker of the House, he had to sell his soul to the devil...multiple times, even after the check bounced 14 times. However, we are slowing uncovering all of the evil things McCarthy had to do in order to satisfy the GOP's right wing. This week, while the mainstream media was on a sugar high from their first presidential scandal in FOREVER (oh, how awful it must be for their ratings to not have a corrupt President) regarding Biden's classified documents, the GOP announced that the full House of Representatives will be voting on what could claim the prize of the worst piece of legislation to reach the House floor in this century. The bill, sponsored by anti-McCarthy republican Buddy Carter of Georgia would abolish the IRS and abolish the income tax, the corporate tax, the estate tax, the capital gains tax, the Social Security tax, and the Medicare tax. In place of those taxes would be a 30% regressive universal federal sales tax.
Kevin McCarthy will put that bill on the floor of the House for a vote in the coming days or weeks, which is downright insane. It's so insane, it sounds made-up, like some fake story coming out of a left-wing conspiracy theory Facebook account. But no, it's very real, and the mainstream media has completely ignored it. If you Google "30 Percent Sales Tax," there are two news stories about it: One from the New York Magazine and one from Mother Jones. CNN, the network panned by the right as "liberal media," hasn't even touched the story yet. If you go on Twitter and type "30 Percent Income Tax" into the search bar, the top tweet is not from some official newspaper account like the New York Times or CNN - it's from Connecticut Senator Chris Murphy.
If the news media was as liberal as Fox News is conservative, as the right would like to claim, they would be taking this opportunity to turn heads far away from Biden's classified documents issue and destroy House Republicans for holding a vote on the craziest tax proposal in a century. CNN spent ample time before the midterms talking about inflation and how republicans could somehow solve the problem if elected to Congress. Jake Tapper even made a whole segment about how the midterms was such a "tough choice" for voters between "Republicans who say they will stop inflation" and democrats who "won't destroy democracy." Congratulations, Jake Tapper. You're an idiot. Republicans were never going to solve inflation, they just loved to talk about the issue and get people to vote for them simply out of anger from their empty pockets. And after the GOP supposedly was elected to solve the problem, they're going to tax your goods and services to death? Maybe this should be a story CNN should be running. But they won't, because they're too busy trying to act neutral while they spend more time airing coverage about Biden's documents that he returned after finding them, versus the republicans' planned highway robbery of the working class.
